just in time for snow

the socks are finished. i was so excited to finish them and bought more skeins of different yarn colors to make 9 pairs. somewhere in there, i am also going to do a sweater. i really wanted to get it down and make sure everything was perfect before starting on such a big project. for these socks i used 20% wool and 80% acrylic worsted weight yarn, its a perfect combination-and in fact, its the same blend i use for my shop. i bought more yarn with wool in it, hopefully it wont be itchy. any socks i finish, i will most definitely share here on this space. they are too pretty not to. also, if anyone has any questions-i would be more than happy to help :] i used a beginners sock pattern, if anyone has a favorite sock pattern of their own, please share!

i made these socks just in time, it snowed last night and finally the oklahoma plains are covered in snow. it feels like winter.

one thing that i have always wanted to make were socks.
they have intimadated me since my mom first made a pair for me...and since then, i have never attempted socks.
but since its been on my goal list for a few years now, i knew it was high time for me to cross it off. i made the first pair in about 10 hours. it took some trial and error to get it down, having only worked with double pointed needles once before. and i actually love it. like, love it love it. i get chills every time i look at that sock, knowing i completely made something to fit my foot perfectly. crazy i know. i had some help from you tube on the complicated parts such as picking up stitches and certain things like that, but all in all it was super easy. and i cannot believe i am saying that.
im hoping to finish the other sock a lot quicker since i have it down to a rhythm. i can make my own patterns for scarves/cowls/hats/gloves/boot warmers, etc. super easy, and hope to even transform the sock pattern i used into a little bit more of my own pattern. i dont know if i will ever want to stop making these since they are so much fun-the only downside is how long they take to me. i will share more photos of both socks when the second one is complete (these were taken via my phone and shared by instagram, so im sorry for not the best quality...but i had to share since they were a success)!
another thing on my goal list is to knit a childs sweater. another huge intimadating project, but i think i might be able to do it :]

a wonderful customer of mine asked me to create her the barrow cowl in a pale pink color.
she found the beautiful yarn, which is made up of 55% acrylic and 45% cotton-so its incredibly soft. it might be some of my favorite yarn i have ever used. it knitted up beautifully and sits so softly against the neck. i cannot wait to send it to her all the way to japan. it has a long journey ahead to reach her, so i look forward to hearing what she thinks. it also makes for a perfect spring cowl because its lightweight.

after spending a lot of time considering different bags, along with moop, i have always loved the bags by valhallabrooklyn. you may remember this post a few years ago, my obsession with the bag above. i also love the different bag liners she offers, the above birch tree liner being my most favorite.
wondering if i should go with this instead? hmmmm, so many decisions :]
also, a blog reader of mine suggested using an ipad cover instead. since i have a silicone cover-i think this will be the best bet. im loving the one above.

since i was little

i still remember my very first purse as a little girl. it was navy faux leather, a handbag, and in my eyes the best purse ever. i would organize my things in it everyday and get so excited to take it out. {i get all of this purse obsession thanks to my mom}. since then my weakness has always been purses. a purse can change any outfit, its the greatest accessory (besides the scarf) in my opinion. i try not to buy as many as i use to, only saving for ones that i know i will keep 10 years from now.

im debating between a couple of bags right now by moop. ive always been a huge moop fan and currently own 6 bags. i havent bought one in a few years, and am eager to see a newer material they use, the waxed canvas. i love the distressed look of the brown, although everyone knows i am a huge grey fan...ive been eyeing these for a long time now, and finally think i should take the plunge. especially because i know they are made of the best quality.

so its down to messenger no. 2 or 3. ill let you know what i decide on. there are few differences between the two, so it wont be too hard when deciding. i guess i just like to make conscious decisions when making a bigger purchase. does anyone own a moop bag with the new waxed canvas? id love to hear your thoughts!

after not having such a great experience with my nook cover, i ended up getting a silicone sleeve and am on the hunt for a nice pouch to place it in while carrying it in my bag. i love the look of these, but dont want it to be too bulky since thats the reason why i changed my first cover in the first place.

i spy mooses

last night it snowed.
and today, around the afternoon, it disappeared as if nothing had happened at all.

i wanted to talk about a wonderful girl from france i met through etsy that contacted me in november.
she is a graphic design student and offered to custom make me a banner for my shop as a school project.
after a long pause in discussing our plans because i was consumed with orders, we picked the project up again as soon as Christmas was over.
55 convos later, we came up with the new banner located in my shop. you can see another image of it located in my right sidebar as a link to my shop.
i asked her to design an image using mooses or bears with scarves wrapped around their necks and she did the rest. i love her work. i have tried using several other graphic designers via etsy and it just seemed like i could never get across what i wanted. so i took to designing my own banners for a few years. in the end i decided on both the bears and the mooses for separate banners and will switch out occasionally.
she is now designing a banner for my mom and has had the neatest ideas. i will let you know when her banner is finished as well.

set a goal

i have been debating on what to do for new years type goals, as mentioned before, i really dont like making them just because of the new year. they tend to be forgotten come march. but i do like to set realistic goals for myself throughout the year and reach them to the best of my abilities.
the best way to do this is to create a list. i love lists. i have several of them and a goal list is always written down for certain projects. an entire list is dedicated to just the books i want to read for the year. a list is written down of what i want to accomplish in a day. a week. a month. a year. it keeps me motivated. and motivation is exactly what i need, daily.

so this brings me to a goal i have for my blog,
my 3 6 5 project is one thing that did not get finished last year, i got so busy from october-december, i had no time to post there. i loved doing the project, but at the same time it felt so separate from this space. so instead i have thought of doing a wordless post at least once a week. which is not something new, its seen on a lot of blogs, but it will be new here. and i feel like i can stick to that goal. dont get me wrong, i love to set high high goals for myself. and i feel like this is so important in molding ourselves as individuals. most goals are not mentioned on this space...a lot of the goals were accomplished, some were pushed aside waiting on the list for this year. but thats okay. for me. i think the most important thing is setting goals that can be accomplished. it makes you feel better as a person, it takes you closer to the confidence we need in ourselves.
also, in my inspiration book, there are things in there that inspire me that i would love to do. speak french, play the guitar, write a book, etc...but i realize a lot of these goals arent really realistic for myself. they may be for you, so i am not saying that you cannot reach a goal that isnt realistic. just set a goal in general. and keep it. accomplish it.
push yourself to be the best in your eyes.

i recently received these in the mail, they are so much easier/cleaner looking than my previous ones.
its funny how much your shop evolves from the beginning. and i give all the credit to my husband for thinking of these. from the span of october-december he has pretty much been helping me package my orders. that involves cutting things out, stamping, going to paypal-punching in all of the right things, etc. and he said, instead of printing your own care instrctions and cutting them, why not order them? oh, geeze. he made it sound so easy.
i love that about him, he makes things easy.

the year 2011 was such a good year for me. a lot of things happened that i never thought possible.
my eyes were open in a new way, i learned to be more thankful for what i have.
when i looked back through all of my pictures, i tried to pick the ones that i remembered taking the most-or ones that stood out to me more than all of the rest.
i am a firm believer in taking as many pictures as possible, because that moment that you are in? it disappears. these photos help me remember that day, that moment. the smells. the textures and sounds. the people. how green the leaves were. how many orders i had to send out. how grey the sky was. i love the moments of this year, maybe not all of them. but most of them.

the last days

the past couple of days i have taken a step back. i wanted to take a good look at myself. i think every once in awhile we all need to evaluate ourselves. i asked questions like,
who am i as this person?
what were my accomplishments, failures, dreams that got pushed aside?
when did i give more than take?
where did i miss out the most in this year given to me?
why didnt i jump into action when someone needed me?
did i put enough energy into being my best person?
a lot of the questions bothered me for some reason. i love to have answers for everything, but realize sometimes things need to fall into place. stack stack stack. on their own. some things dont need to be answered.
im happy, im healthy, im blessed for sure.
i have my family, a place to call home, stuff.
every year i feel like i grow as a person more so than the last. but i am still hungry to be more than i can be. i think we all want that.
i came to the conclusion that its not about who what when where why necessarily, its about yourself and how you view your life. how you want to be in this place. this infinite world.
i just want to be more.

a handmade Christmas

like last year, i made almost all of the things in my mom and sisters gift bags. i love giving handmade gifts-to me its so special to add that along with all of the other stuff.
. i love the idea of anything personalized. i bought 4 mugs at target, stencils, black paint (martha stewarts all purpose) and for around $15.00 made these mugs with their last name initials.
. i bought vases and wanted to make something that looked vintage. i bought 2 vases, stencils, an almost white paint (ms). super easy and fun.
. this year i saved my leftover yarn to wrap around my gifts.
. vanilla sugar scrub-i searched on pinterest to find the best recipe. i am going to make this year round (i ended up receiving some from my sister)! and love it.
. moleskine journals with scrapbooking paper to make it more personalized to fit what they love.
. christmas trees-all white and jeweled beach glass.
. cookies and milk for santa.
i also printed off some thank you cards from pinterest, gave them these towels, these wooden spreaders, and these tags from one of my favorite shops on etsy.
i made my sister a framed silhoutte portrait of her girls-she loved it! so happy with the way it turned out. i made my brother in law a knitted hat (a personal request :]), my niece an earring holder since she just got her ears pierced!, a hat for my youngest niece, and a painted canvas with my nieces name (i make all of them one and only have one left!).
we had such a wonderful Christmas and it was so nice to take a few days off to spend with all of the family and do crafts. although we did not have a white Christmas-it was still beautiful and went down as one of the best of all time.
i hope yours was equally beautiful and just as lovely.

6 days until Christmas Day. i am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel...i mailed 23 pieces off today. so much hard work has been put in this season and a good vacation for myself is very much needed. still so much to do-wrap Christmas gifts (the very few we have so far), make a bunch of things for the family, {go Christmas shopping}-i still have not had time to do this!, go look at Christmas lights, sit and relax. relax. relax. i also look forward to being able to post more on this space-i have missed my photography and being able to write.
my new business cards came in the mail the other day, i love how simple and clean they look. im all about simplicity.

how many stitches does it take to make up a barrow cowl

ive always been curious as to how many stitches exactly made up these beautiful scarves.

{some facts}
. when its complete, it makes the most gorgeous cowl that looks like tiny chevrons knitted throughout.
. many do not know, its actually reversible with a beautiful stich on the inside as well.
. its one of the items in my shop that takes me the longest to make.
. the end result is the only reason why it remains in my shop.
. its lightweight, warm, and super easy to wear.
. lastly, its the very first thing that debuted itself in the ozetta shop.

im loving every minute of creating for you. my 5 am mornings and midnight evenings have already begun. a lot of customers are already ordering for Christmas this year. super excited about that.

i currently have 188 skeins of yarn invading my office.
it certainly gives a whole new meaning to a colorful room.
i had a lady stop me today and ask, what in the world do you do with all of that beautiful colorful yarn?
this made me smile because i wanted to say, i create things for people all over the world. they stay warmer in the winter because of my handknits.
but i just said, oh, i make lots of beautiful colorful scarves.

snuck up on me

the month of october has snuck up on me so fast...

halloween decorations have made their way into their cozy spots, fall and winter clothing has been pushed to the front of the closet, and a costume is already being prepped.

this month is so full and its only just begun.

i worked on orders this weekend and shipped off 9 pieces today. not as many as usual on a monday, because a birthday had to be celebrated. my little guy will be 2 on the 7th. its so hard to believe how big he is getting so quickly, it seems like yesterday we were just bringing him home.

i love all of the colors above, it makes me happy that everyone is different. there are some favorites and usuals in there, but usually its always a surprise to see what someone will choose.

long winter farm

some things that i love about autumn are all of the rich colors. the smells. the cool weather. the yummy food. the layering. family time.
i could never find fall scents to wear, until last year when i came across long winter farm on etsy.
they have the best scents to choose from, and you can even make your own.
for Christmas, my sister ordered me apple pie hand and body cream-and here lately, that is all i have been wearing since the cooler weather has hit.
i also ordered a perfume scent and plan on ordering the samples so i can increase my fall/winter supply of scents.

i received a shipment of handmade natural wood buttons today, plenty to adorn toronto hats.
i love these buttons so much, i wish i could give one to everybody just to keep. the thought of recycling a once beautiful tree is comforting.
new packaging to welcome the fall and autumn months.
and 23 pieces shipped off today.
i was going through old pictures the other day and came across a folder from last year (the 21st of sept), which i blogged about here. i sent off 4 selawiks to a lady for her bridesmaids. today (the 20th) i sent off 6 selawiks for her bridesmaids. hmmmmm. love.
needless to say, i am super tired, but loving all of the love!

. How did you first get started knitting…what appeals to you about this particular medium?

I started crocheting when I was ten years old, but took a long break from it and picked up knitting. However, I have found that both are equally important in this industry. So, I do both. This art form appeals to me because you start with yarn and needles. That's it. And with great care and process I begin to create something. It's amazing what you can create with so little and make something so extraordinary. When I work on an order, I like to look at it as something entirely different than just an order. It means so much more to me than that. Each piece I create is full of meaning, love, and high attention to detail. According to my father-in-law I am building a piece. And I guess in reality, I really am.

. Where do you draw your inspiration from?

I constantly draw inspiration from this beautiful world-Nature. Music. Fashion. Words. Photography. Family. I once lived in Alaska for a short year of my life and very few places have been close in comparison. You may notice a lot of the titles in my shop are named after places; it's my personal way of having a piece of Alaska with me. My handmade items are mostly named after cities, bodies of water, and small towns that make up Alaska. This cold and mountainous place made a huge mark on my life and I wanted a part of it to always belong in my shop.

the toronto winter hat

happy monday all!
some of you may have noticed i sneaked a new piece into the shop, the toronto winter hat.
i pretty much designed it around this beautiful handmade button...
it features a natural wooden button, made double thick for that extra bit of warmth, and you may choose from my vegan acrylic blend or wool/acrylic blend. (which you can do with all my pieces now!).
it resembles my roanoke headband with the button option, but made into a hat of course.

. i was in college for 5 years, and pretty much hated every minute of it. i graduated with a finance degree and wish i could have gone for something in the arts instead
. when sledding one year, i crashed and had a scar on my face that landed me the nick name "hook". i thought i was going to be the captain for the rest of my life. it went away. (thankfully)

saturday we went to the switchfoot concert and had a blast.
its nice to forget everything and get lost in this world of music.
they always put on the best concert, we managed to get in the second row, which was perfect.
i ended up ditching my good camera for my iphone4, sorry for the not the best of quality images. but i love them just the same :] each picture depicts exactly how the concert was.

over the weekend, i made these shorts.
they were super easy and fun to make.
again, i used this website, this tutorial to make them.
all you need is mens, or boys boxers shorts, i got mine at target. lace. a sewing machine. and pins.
it took me a total of about 30 minutes, to pin and sew.
since target doesnt carry these particular shorts in black, im thinking of doing the white boxer shorts/white lace and dying it all black when i am done. ive always wanted a cute pair of black shorts like these. ill share if its a success.
(these shorts are rolled twice at the top because they are kind of long, but i promise you cant tell) ;)

i am finally using this yarn again-you may remember the cowls and scarves ive made in the past. i have sold out of the colors peach and cochineal. and only have enough to make 3 of these.
i am in love with this piece and it is easily in my top favorites of things i have created over the years.
its soft, light as a feather to wear, warm, unique, and versatile. oh and beautiful. :]
