back in february,
i contacted victoria about doing a collaboration with me. since designing my shop banner (you may see the new one in my shop and on the side of my blog as well), i knew that she would be the absolute best at creating a trapped vision of something i had in my mind, reality. i had the idea of this bearded captain with knitted/ocean things trapped in his beard and i knew she was the only one that could turn my vision into something real. over hundreds of convos later we ended up with the last image-which is now on my aran canvas tote. victoria is the sweetest person you could ever meet, and anything i asked about, she knew exactly what i meant and how to make it look good at the same time. the sailor quickly became the center of my whole entire collection, and from there everything else took off. i knit and crochet and see things take shape before my eyes. but envisioning something like the sailor above, and having it become tangible, is by far one of my favorite things i have ever done. especially because my shop took such a different direction than any other summer collection. but it also tied all of the knitting/crocheted items together. i did hours and hours of research on captains and sailors, and actually found that some of the first items ever knitted were fishing nets by sailors. and sailors would take knitting on long voyages because it was portable and easy to carry. i am fascinated with the history of knitting and crocheting, i could talk about it for hours. i know, its boring to most, but to think of how far the art has come...well, it really is something. from the sketches, the sailor took shape into screenprint form, and onto a canvas tote. i hope you enjoy the bearded sailor tote a little more, and love him just as much as i do. {im currently carrying this tote everywhere i go}.
find the tote, always in my shop.

Love it, the new work looks really cohesive and manages to convey a story (really great pictures/images also).
